Black Pine Animal Park

Tuesday, October 9, 2012
Last weekend a group of us went to Black Pine animal park in Albion, Indiana. It's an animal sanctuary for older exotic animals from zoos and from (awful awful) people who had them as pets. There are lions, tigers, bears (yeah yeah), monkeys, barnyard animals, etc. They had a bunch of new animals, too. I've been there a handful of times. I'd heard the lion I loved so much had died, but they got another. And there was a whole new exhibit for wolves.

I can't explain how much I love my new camera. This female lion was behind thick wire and you'd never know. Ehh. Anyway.

I got a series of pictures of this tiger yawning and thought this one was awesome. It's right at the end of his yawn and he looks so menacing.

This was heartbreaking. Casey, Alex and I went over to this bear's enclosure and she was just laying there. We talked to her a bit and she got up and leaned against the fencing like this. And just watched us. I've never wanted to hug something so bad...and I've been in the same room as Bill Cosby.

I also got a chance to use some filters I'd purchased on Ebay. I plan on devoting a blog post to them. They were ridiculously cheap and fun. I'm no expert concerning exactly what they do but they made my pictures pretty, so that's enough.

Okay, I think this ostrich placed a curse on me. This picture is horrifying. I got it in mid-blink and I want to die now. I think this'll end up being one of those "creepypasta" things where if you look at it's eye you'll see it every time you close your eyes at night and it'll pop out from under your bed.

{This is Casey telling a story about something. I wasn't listening.}

After the park, we stopped at this random pizza place. I should've taken a picture of the pizza. I definitely recommend it next time you're in random-ass-town, Indiana.

What kind of post would this be without a video of a giant senile lion rolling on it's back?

Are there any cool places like this near where you live? I'm sure most people in Fort Wayne have no idea they're 45 minutes away from a place where you can stand a (literal) foot away from a lion and stare straight into his giant orb eyes.

Essie's Absolutely Shore

Essie - Absolutely Shore (3 coats)

I realized it'd been too too long since I did a nail polish post. I like them because I don't have to write much. Imagine having a blog and not appreciating the art of writing. Well I appreciate writing, just I appreciate others writing. I only like writing haikus about my stupid classmates.

Anyway, I found this at Marshall's for $4 and heaven knows I needed a 10th minty-hued polish. So here she is. Have a great week, all!

'New' in September

Thursday, October 4, 2012
I finally found a pair of boots that meet my high high standards. Having giant's feet (size 11 US), I have a hard time finding shoes that don't make me look like I've got clown (or giant's, for that matter) feet. These make me feet look like an ordinary sized woman's feet!

Fort Wayne just got a DSW and that's where these babies were. They're by Guess and are perfect and I've already broken them in - took a lot less time than I would've guessed.

My mom and I have a horribly disgusting habit of going shopping after our joint garage sales. It's backwards and negates the purpose of a garage sale, but I rarely go to the mall, so paid a trip to The Body Shop and Sephora. (The Burt's Bees is from Target and I highly highly highly recommend it. If you love grapefruit. I LOVE grapefruit scents and this is the best lip balm I've ever purchased.)

I was borrowing my brother's copy of Middlesex and since I loved it so much I decided I needed my own copy. And as Ben stole my copy of The Virgin Suicides, I got that, too.

What have you been eyeing lately?

The Stepford Wives

Wednesday, October 3, 2012
The Stepford Wives by Ira Levin

First sentence: "The welcome wagon lady, sixty if she was a day but working at youth and vivacity (ginger hair, red lips, a sunshine-yellow dress), twinkled her eyes and teeth at Joanna and said, "You're really going to like it here! It's a nice town with nice people! You couldn't have made a better choice!"

-This is another one of those "light reads" that didn't have any quotes that made me go back and re-read or write down a page to revisit. I also didn't find it particularly chilling... It was an enjoyable-enough read during our garage sale last weekend, though. And a short book for in-between Middlesex and my next venture.

Last sentence: "I don't mind," he said.

I decided to up all my book posts on Wednesdays. I'm a sucker for schedules (this is sad, no?). I don't want the book posts to pile up on top of each other as I notice they aren't popular but WHATEVER. I love knowing which quotes people liked in books and recently got a comment on my Middlesex posting saying they liked book posts. Granted this post is a bore, but that's because Stepford Wives was kind of a bore. I have yet to read a truly scary book. Recommendations? Please?
