No dropped stitches. A little bit of progress. I'm proud but the process is just as slow as ever. These project knit posts are SOOOO BOOOOORING. The only reason I'm posting this is because I like how the purple yarn looks against the yellow ironing board.
Anyone have ideas on how I could spice up Project Knit? In a realistic way. I'm obviously not skilled at knitting.
[[ I'm going to start a tag for my nails. Nails of the moment (because people who do "nails of the day" must be crazy...and have brittle yellowed nails). Anyway, I'm starting a really big project/goal/resolution. I feel I have a bit too many nail polishes (friends all over are coughing). So I'm going to wear every single one before I can purchase anymore. And I have to make a post featuring every single one. This is going to be the hardest thing I've ever had to do. My melodrama is going to consume me. Thus begins... Nails of the Moment. ]]
I ran out of some fabric and felt colors I needed to make the pencil cases I was working on, so I made a list and went out to do a bunch of errands today. At Joann's I found the fabric and (some) of the felt I needed. They were totally out of white felt. So I had to go to Michaels. (Plus before all that I went back to where I typically get zippers and got 20 zippers for $5. Amazing.)
These are the badges I made before I ran out of white felt. Obviously I favored three houses before Slytherin.
The thing I'm most excited about... A little back story. When I was little all I ever wanted was to be a librarian so I could use the date stamps. Yes, I'm old enough to know what date stamps are. But since I never became a librarian and really don't plan on trying to be one anymore, I collect stamp pads and stamps every once in awhile. I have that date stamp. It's sitting right next to me. I use it for Local Color and I want to marry him.
But Michael's had all this junk for $1 each (sans the pads which were $1.99). But I've wanted alphabet stamps since before time so I was really excited. I took these god awful pictures really quickly so I could play around with them. In fact, they're still wrapped next to me. I made myself post this first.
This is torturous.
Anyway, that's my progress. Now that my supplies are back in stock the progress should really come faster.
I had a pretty packed weekend, so I'm anxious to wind down and get to work. Thank heaven "getting to work" for me is relaxing. I've got requests and things I've run out of that I need to replace, so here's hoping the weather cooperates for pictures this week. I stopped by Joann's and got new background colors for my Etsy pictures, which is exciting only for me.
So basically I hope to be updating on TRIUMPH this week.
That is all. I hope everyone had as good a weekend as I did.
This week was pretty unproductive when it came to making anything, so I didn't get out my fancy camera at all really. I did, however, take a lot of cell-phone pictures. I don't have a super modern expensive smart phone because I like to spend my money on things that matter like ice cream and nail polish. This week's Friday Five is going to be images from my trusty brick cell phone:
1. The congratulations cake Katie and I made for Kristin: She's now a CNA, so we made a "YAY YAY, CNA!" cake that is most obviously colorful. And was delicious. And filling. And gave me a belly ache.
2. This ostrich: Alice and I went to the zoo on Tuesday, and I snapped a few pictures. I thought it was supposed to rain so I didn't bring my Nikon (of course it was super sunny and all I got was a sunburn).
3. Komodo Dragon: I've been coming to the zoo to see this guy since I can remember. He's NEVER this close. He likes to only show me his backside, so this was a (different kind) of treat. Oh, that's gross.
4. My stupid Mowgli dog: She loves to love me. But only when I've just made the BEST sandwich ever.
5. Oshawott!: I got a Happy Meal at McDonalds specifically so I could get this Oshawott bobble-body doll. I don't even like McDonalds.
I now have to shower and put on a dress and go to a wedding. But I get to see Casey in a tuxedo, so that should be interesting.
This week's objective was a little different and less boring. I started a few days ago and re-started countless times because I dropped stitches or the gauge was really inconsistant. It's frustrating to think that this little bit of knitting took a few minutes shy of how long it took me to make this crocheted iPod case. The knitting definitely looks tighter and cleaner but at this rate it'll take me 567,493 weeks to finish one case.
But not using that gross tan yarn is helping me actually pull out the knitting and work on it. I'll be honest and say this is just one sitting of work (and not a terribly long sitting). Hopefully next week I'll have made a bit more progress.
I'm getting a little overwhelmed with all the updating on Etsy and Tumblr and here, so I figured Twitter is the absolute simplest way to keep everyone updated on new products, shop announcements, coupon codes, blog giveaways and everything else.
So if you have a Twitter be sure to follow me for updates!!
Since I feel bogged down with a lot on my to-do list, I figured my Friday Five could highlight the things I have accomplished this week and thus have checked from my list.
1. I finished Goblet of Fire and have started Order of the Phoenix. For those of you who don't know, one of my resolutions/goals for 2011 is to re-read all the Harry Potter books before the last movie comes out. Obviously I'm ages behind, but finishing the fourth feels good nonetheless and I plan on getting a lot of reading done next week when it's stormy and disgusting outside.
2. I managed to organize my bedroom in a way I don't already feel like changing up. I'm horrible when it comes to this. I'm never truly satisfied with how my room looks. I'm a clean freak and organize until I've driven myself mad. So having it set in a way I feel it'll stay for some time is an accomplishment to me.
3. I made-over this blog! I was kind of dissatisfied with how it was set up before this. I wanted a banner and was too impatient to wait for the one Alice will eventually draw me, so I made a simple one to install for now. I think it looks a little cleaner and I'm happy I finished that up.
4. I made a new Etsy banner. It's incredibly simple (as all of mine are), because Etsy loves making banners looks HORRIBLY pixelated. So the simpler, the better. I like changing mine up way too much. I kind of like to change it with the months. And June makes me think of purple.
5. I finished all the Hogwarts-inspired pencil cases! I love how they look and will have them on Etsy within the next week. My favorite is Hufflepuff, despite never having been a fan of Hufflepuff.
Next on the agenda is patterned pencil cases, a few new crocheted patterns I'm going to try out, a plush bear for my cousin's birthday coming up, and maybe a swim to cool off. It's beautiful out today and I haven't got plans to be anywhere, so I might as well. I'm just going to take one thing at a time. And watch a lot of movies while I work. So far I've gotten through two.
In an effort to motivate myself to start coming up with new ideas for LC products, I'm going to start a new tag called "Introducing...". I doubt it will be weekly (I don't want to get sloppy in order to have a weekly post), but I have one today that I'm excited about. It's kind of cheating considering I've done Hogwarts-inspired crest products before... and I've done pencil cases, but combining the two is new. I think I might give one away or give the July giveaway winner the option of a crochet case or pencil case.
Obviously I haven't finished the cases, but I wanted to take pictures while the sun wasn't totally covered with clouds. The weather's been awful here and all I've been doing it sleeping and reading. But last night I got a burst of energy and cut patterns and sewed these new crests. I made them wider, which I like a lot more.
So that's something new that I'm working on and excited to share when they're all finished. I also cut a bunch of patterns for non-HP pencil cases. Since August isn't terribly far (don't burn me) I figured people might be on the lookout. I know I use my pencil case and I typically need a new one every year because it gets dirty and I'm a clean freak.
Question: who actually uses a pencil case for school? At my college I feel like the only one. But I absolutely love them and have no idea how other people function without them. But that might just be me being a total control freak. Let me know in the comments below! And if you missed it, don't miss out on my June giveaway!
Oh, the progress. And the terrible quality image. I didn't drop any stitches, but I still hate life while knitting. I think for next week I'm going to make one of my iPod Touch cases to the best of my ability. Maybe using a prettier color will keep me happier. This is bound to turn out just terrible...and I don't even know how to "cast off". So that's my goal.
I finally got good images for the giveaway! I also decided to give the winner a choice between 4 different cases. The winner will be chosen in 1 week (June 21st, 2011 at noon EST). Anonymous entries will obviously be disqualified. You can enter as many times as you like.
To enter: just leave a comment telling me what your favorite case is! You must also be subscribed to this blog via GoogleReader so I can contact you. You don't need a blog to do so, just click the "follow" button in the sidebar!
Good luck to everyone who enters!
-PS: Entering on Tumblr doesn't count. This is a Blogspot giveaway only.
This week has started off in an odd way. I have a lot of family issues that are weighing down my thoughts and spent last night and today with my mom, talking. By the time I got home the sun had moved away from my room leaving me with terrible terrible lighting for pictures - so no cyclops listings or giveaway. So I decided to make myself a "blog agenda" for lack of a better phrase. I'm going to share it on here so maybe I can be held responsible for it. I hate giving excuses and really need to kick the habit.
Tuesday: The giveaway! I'm giving away a zipper case. There will be 2 up for grabs. The winner can pick between the two. It'll be international and I'll explain the rules for entering in tomorrow's post.
Wednesday: Project Knit (Weeks 4-5). I have 28 lines to knit before then...wish me luck!
Thursday: Introducing new shop items. Be it rough sketches or finished products, I will have something to show for myself come Thursday.
Friday: A Friday Five
I'm making a list of ideas for Friday Fives so I can't run out anytime soon.
Maybe I'll do a mini-giveaway soon to make up for it.
I do have a LOT of product that hasn't moved in months.
It's settled. My next post will be a little giveaway, so plan on THAT.
Casey and I are cooking at home tonight and I'm treating him to Olive Garden tomorrow. Because we eat a lot. Did I ever mention on here that we're going to start a food blog together? I'm really excited for that and will post more about it when it's started.
Introducing: the new collection of iPod cases. I made a whole set of cyclops. I want them all to myself. If it weren't so dreary here I could have taken better pictures, but such is life. I'll have these guys listed sometime next week. If you want to reserve one, let me know and I'll set it aside for you.
I haven't had the best of weeks, so I've been trying to focus on good little things that I've got goin' on. Like stationary. Because I'm all of 102 years old. But I found this Dr. Seuss stationary at TJ Maxx for $4.99 and thought it was perfect. So I got it. Even though I never use stationary. I need a pen pal.
AND I used some of the gift card Casey got me for my birthday to buy... yeah. Just what I needed. Mermaid's Tears and Pink-a-doodle (a truly disgusting name).
I've got a lot of exciting stuff coming up in relation to this blog. I'm planning a giveaway in July. I'm going to be giving away 2 Harry Potter inspired cases (in the size the winner will decide). I'm giving one away on Tumblr and one on here, so there will be two chances to win if you follow both blogs. Plus I've been talking with Alice and I think we're going to swap skills and she's going to make me an amazing banner for this blog. I'm really really excited about that. I love her stuff. Check out her photography/personal Tumblr here. But then I'm going to do all the dork HTML-y stuff for an art blog she wants to start. PLUS... this paragraph is too long so I'm going to start another even though I don't need to.
PLUS! Emily and I are thinking of collaborating to do some interview/giveaway type posts in the future.
So those are some things to watch out for.
As for project knit... go ahead and crucify me because I didn't do any knitting this week. I guess I'll have 28 rows of knitting to show next Wednesday? I need to tweak my Project Knit goal. At this point those posts are a big bore.
But I am planning on a Friday Five tomorrow. Not sure what it'll include, but I'M GONNA DO IT.
I had someone request a "first aid" kind of case for their first aid personals. I thought it was a great idea. I love the way this turned out. Thinking of making one for my own stuff.
I miss making zipper cases. I wish more people used them so I could make more.
Not much for words today. I've been incredibly motivated. I made a post office trip, made this, took a ton of photos for my new BLOG SALE section (so have a look at that, it'll be added to a lot probably). And the rest of the night is going to be devoted to keychains! So hopefully I'll have a blog post devoted to those soon.
Hope everyone's having a good Monday!
And let me know if you have any ideas for animals or shapes for the keychains! I've got a huge list, but can always use ideas!
Not much to say this week. I dropped a stitch. I'm very frustrated with knitting. This thing still doesn't appear to be getting any longer... Hopefully next week's installment won't look like I'm just a big cheater. I swear I added 14 rows!
